Issues of Alcohol Use and Misuse
2003 Design and development of
interactive study materials for MBChB Vertical Themes at Edinburgh
University Medical School.
I designed this CAL to be appealing
to students, who are encouraged to relate the social issues and
consequences of alcohol use and misuse to their own circumstances
and experiences. Design and interactive development aims for immediacy,
while being efficient in use and re-use of resources and easily
extensible over the 5 years of this course. Initial feedback from
staff and students was positive, and the design re-used for subsequent
CALs, for example 'Reproductive Health' and 'Diabetes'.
A combination of photography and graphics
was chosen, as this was likely to be appealing to the target
audience, as well as efficient and flexible.
Here are examples of learning objects developed
for the series.
>> Unit 1 Intro Screen: "The
wedding party"
>> Example character banners (static)
>> Example character banner (with
audio and transcript)
>> Dr Hilary's drinks
calculator (female version, showing Cheryl's drinks diary)
